Chesney Hughes signs new Derbyshire contract

Derbyshire all-rounder Chesney Hughes has signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal with last season's Division Two champions.

The left-handed attacking batsman has scored more than 1,500 runs in 27 first-class matches since joining the club in 2009.

The 22-year-old has thrived in the shorter forms of the game, where his slow left-arm bowling is a useful weapon for the Falcons.

"I am delighted. There is a positive vibe around the club and we are raring to get the season started," Hughes said.

The new deal will keep the Anguilla-born cricketer at the club until September 2015.
