Sri Lanka batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan agrees to join Derbyshire for two spells over the summer.

Derbyshire have announced that Sri Lanka batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan has agreed to join the team for two spells over the summer.

The 38-year-old will be available to compete in four Natwest T20 Blast fixtures in June, replacing Martin Guptill as their overseas player, and he will return in early August after playing in the Caribbean Premier League.

Dilshan has scored 5,492 runs at an average of 40.98 in 87 Test matches for Sri Lanka, and has also racked up 313 one-day international appearances and 62 Twenty20s for his country.

"Derbyshire are an ambitious club with an exciting young team and I'm looking forward to joining them in the NatWest T20 Blast and then returning to help them finish the season strongly," Dilshan told the club's official website.

"I am really pleased with my current form and this makes me confident I can make a strong contribution to Derbyshire this season."

Elite performance director Graeme Welch added: "Dilshan is a proven match winner who has shown this time and time again on the world stage. His record speaks for itself and he brings a wealth of experience across all formats and to the dressing room. He is also committed to helping our younger lads during his stay."

Dilshan is currently preparing for Sri Lanka's World Cup quarter-final against South Africa in Sydney.
