Brendon McCullum is confident in New Zealand's wicketkeeping options should BJ Watling be deemed unfit for the second Test.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has admitted that the Black Caps have a number of options should current wicketkeeper BJ Watling not recover from injury in time for the start of the second Test against England.

McCullum could decide to keep wicket himself, but 21-year-old Tom Latham and Luke Ronchi are also in contention for Friday's Test at Headingley.

"It depends on whether we feel that Tom's ready to take over the gloves in a Test or whether the balance is right with me to go to seven or whether we think that Ronchi coming is the right option," McCullum told the London Evening Standard.

"I totally believe in this group of players and just because of one poor batting performance it's not panic stations. There's plenty of different options we have to look at."

New Zealand are 1-0 down in the series following the defeat at Lord's.
