Mumbai Indians pile more misery on Kings XI Punjab

The Mumbai Indians won their third Indian Premier League game in a row with a 23-run victory over bottom-of-the-table Kings XI Punjab this afternoon.

The Indians won the toss in Mohali and chose to bat, with openers Lendl Simmons (71) and Parthiv Patel (59) scoring the bulk of the runs as Mumbai posted 172-3 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Punjab lost Virender Sehwag for just two runs in the second over as Kieron Pollard took the catch off the bowling of Lasith Malinga.

Murali Vijay (39) and David Miller (43) scored well and quickly, but they were not well supported as Kings XI were only able to post 149-7 from their 20 overs.

Mumbai remain second from bottom in the standings, but they are now just a point behind Royal Challengers Bangalore in what is a congested mid-table.
