Mitchell Johnson to miss Kings XI Punjab's Champions League T20 opener

Johnson to miss CL T20 opener

Cricket Australia have confirmed that Mitchell Johnson's availability for Kings XI Punjab in the Champions League Twenty20 in India is in doubt due to a rib injury.

The 32-year-old is expected to miss the team's opening match this week as he continues to recover from the problem in Australia.

Cricket Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement: "Mitch had some rib pain during the recent ODI tour of Zimbabwe. Since returning to Australia, he has had some scans that have confirmed some irritation of the tip of the rib.

"As such he has had a break from bowling since returning to Australia and having regular treatment to resolve the problem. He has not fully recovered as yet and will be reviewed over the next week."

Following the Champions League tournament on October 4, Australia are due to play three one-day international games and a T20 encounter against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
