Record-breaking Rohit Sharma sets India on their way

India take control of the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka on 404-5 courtesy of Rohit Sharma's record-breaking stint at the crease.

India batsman Rohit Sharma became the first man to hit 250 in a one-day international to carry the home side to 404-5 against Sri Lanka.

The 27-year-old recorded 209 against Australia in Bangalore last year, ensuring that he also becomes the first person to smash two double centuries in ODIs.

Sharma's impressive showing in Kolkata included 32 fours and nine sixes, before he was eventually caught at long-off from the final ball of the innings.

Captain Virat Kohli was run out on 66 runs, with Robin Uthappa remaining at the crease for India having clocked up 16.

Sharma fell just five runs short of breaking the record for highest individual knock in a first-class one-day game, which was set by Ali Brown who scored 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
