England's James Taylor, Ben Stokes hit warm-up centuries

James Taylor and Ben Stokes both hit three figures during England's tour encounter against a South Africa Invitational XI.

James Taylor and Ben Stokes both struck centuries during England's warm-up encounter against a South Africa Invitational XI earlier today.

Openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales contributed just 10 runs between them, but the innings was steadied by Nick Compton, who staked his claim to bat at number three in the Boxing Day Test with a score of 58.

Taylor, batting at number five, posted a score of 114 before he retired to give those lower down the order some time in the middle.

However, the day belonged to all-rounder Stokes thanks to his knock of 158 runs from just 131 deliveries. It was a haul that included 23 fours and five sixes. Like teammate Taylor, the 24-year-old retired to hand opportunities to others.

England closed the day on 470-5, with Moeen Ali (33) and Chris Woakes (10) unbeaten at the crease.
