Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes have nabbed a wicket apiece to end a frustrating start for England against Pakistan on day one of the second Test in Dubai.
The players have returned to the pavilion for lunch with Pakistan on 85-2 .
After Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat, it was expected to be a long day for England as Mohammad Hafeez and Shan Masood took advantage of the flat pitch.
Masood was the first to hit a boundary, coming off Stuart Broad and through fine leg in the fourth over, while Hafeez contributed to help push Pakistan to 30 without loss off seven overs.
By drinks, Hafeez and Masood had hit 47 runs in 15 overs, but the breakthrough finally came for England when Hafeez was caught at short leg off the bowling of Ali.
The ball hit the inside edge and flew into the hands of Jonny Bairstow at midwicket, resulting in Hafeez leaving the field with 19 runs to his name.
Three overs later, Stokes, who was a doubt for the Test due to illness, nabbed his first wicket thanks to an impressive catch from Bairstow at short leg.
Shoaib Malik clipped the ball into Bairstow's chest and the England player snatched the rebound with his right hand to send the batsman packing for just two.
Pakistan were able to regain composure as Masood pulled up his 50 before leaving the field for lunch on an unbeaten 54, while Younis Khan will return to the crease on 10 runs.
