Third ODI between England, Sri Lanka abandoned due to rain

England fall short in chasing down Sri Lanka's 248-9 in the third ODI in Bristol after heavy rain brought play to an end.

England were denied the chance to edge 2-0 ahead in their best-of-five series with Sri Lanka due to bad weather in Sunday's one-day international.

Heavy rain in Bristol allowed just four overs of the hosts' run chase after the Lions made 248-9 earlier in the day.

Kusal Mendis (53), Dinesh Chandimal (62) and Angelo Mathews (56) all registered half-centuries, but Liam Plunkett took 3-46 to leave England in a promising position to respond.

England were 16-1 when play was eventually abandoned, meaning that they remain 1-0 ahead in the series following the record-breaking 10-wicket win in Saturday's second contest.

Victory for the hosts at The Oval on Wednesday will seal a series triumph.
