Australia defeat England to win ODI series

Australia beat England by 42 runs at the Ageas Bowl to seal a 2-1 victory in the ODI series.

Australia have coasted to victory over England in the fifth and final one-day international at the Ageas Bowl.

Shane Watson (143) and Michael Clarke (75) helped the tourists set 299 for victory - a total which Andy Flower's men fell never looked like reaching.

England's innings got off to a disastrous start as a mix-up between Michael Carberry and Kevin Pietersen (0) saw the South African-born batsman run out with just one run on the board.

The 32-year-old was dismissed for 30 after being trapped lbw by James Faulkner, although Aussie skipper Clarke was forced to review the decision after the umpire's initial was not out.

Joe Root (21) and Luke Wright (0) fell in quick succession to leave the run chase floundering on 68-4, before Eoin Morgan (30) was stumped off the bowling of Adam Voges.

Jos Buttler (42) and Ravi Bopara staged somewhat of a recovery by adding 92 runs during their partnership, which was broken when the former was bowled by Faulkner.

Bopara (62) soon followed after driving Mitchell Johnson's delivery straight to Voges.

England added 52 more runs before Watson, Faulkner and Fawad Ahmed struck to clinch a 2-1 series victory.
