Moeen Ali steadies England's innings as they reach 195-4 at tea

Moeen Ali steadies England's attack during his Test debut as they reach 195-4 against Sri Lanka at tea on day one at Lord's.

Moeen Ali's Test debut is going to plan so far after helping England reach 195-4 at tea following the loss of Ian Bell.

It was a poor start for the hosts as Ali's fellow debutant Sam Robson, captain Alastair Cook and Gary Ballance all fell to leave England on 98-3 after the first session.

After lunch, Bell was dismissed following an lbw from a Shaminda Eranga delivery, which left Ali and Joe Root to steady England's approach.

The 26-year-old impressed at the crease by hitting Rangana Herath for six off the first ball that he faced from the left-armer before eventually taking 43 from 82 deliveries.

Root remains unbeaten on 43.
