Jonathan Trott eager to face Australia again

Trott desperate to face Australia

Jonathan Trott has claimed that the prospect of facing Australia again is driving him on in his bid for an England recall.

The 33-year-old has not played for England since leaving the 2013-14 Ashes series with a stress-related condition, but he is in contention to return to the Test squad after travelling with the Lions to South Africa this winter.

"I'd love to play again. I wouldn't have gone on the Lions tour if I didn't want to play for England again. Whatever happens from here, if it happens, would be fantastic," Trott told The Guardian.

"I want to. I need to. I want to get back out there. It's not anything to do with one individual, it's not an agenda, I want to go out and score runs against Australia.

"You've got to be able to face [Ryan] Harris, [Mitchell] Starc, all the guys. I think Harris is a fantastic bowler, a better bowler than [Mitchell] Johnson even."

England return to the longest format when they tour the West Indies in April, before hosting New Zealand and Australia in the summer.
