James Tredwell wants Test recall

James Tredwell insists that he can earn a place in England's Test side during the tour against Sri Lanka.

James Tredwell has claimed that he is ready to earn a Test recall for England after being named in the squad to face Sri Lanka.

The 30-year-old was named as the fourth spinner in the 16-man squad this week and insists that he is eager to earn his second Test cap.

Tredwell told ESPN: "I may be going just as cover, I'm not sure, but I'll certainly be going there to impress and get a game in my own right.

"This recall was a little bit of a surprise, I guess, having not been involved during the winter, but equally having played last year and done well in my second last game at the World Cup the belief was still there that I can do it at that level.

"With the tours the way they were this winter I knew that something may crop up."

Samit Patel, Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar are the other spinners included in the squad.
