Joe Root: 'Trevor Bayliss knowledge crucial for Ashes'

Joe Root has claimed that Trevor Bayliss will give England an advantage in The Ashes due to his knowledge of players in Australia's squad.

Bayliss was named England's new head coach earlier this week after agreeing to leave New South Wales and IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders, and Root is hopeful that his appointment will boost the hosts ahead of this summer's five-Test series.

"He has a great reputation wherever he has been in the world and has had success," he told reporters. "He has worked with nine of the Australia squad before so that will be an advantage for us.

"More than anything, it is pleasing to be able to get the chance to work with someone who is so experienced in international cricket and domestic too."

England meet New Zealand in the second Test at Headingley on Friday.
