Return knock pleases Nick Compton

Nick Compton speaks of his happiness after scoring 58 runs on his return to action for England in South Africa.

Nick Compton has revealed that he was happy with the half-century that he scored during day one of England's warm-up encounter against a South African Invitational XI in Potchefstroom.

The 32-year-old had not played for his country since 2013, but he staked a claim for a place in the team for the upcoming Boxing Day Test with a knock of 58 off 120 balls.

Speaking to the ECB's official website, the batsman said: "If you gave that to me at the beginning of the day, I definitely would have taken it.

"I think we've had a couple of great days of practice but there's nothing like time in the middle and to spend, I think it was 120 balls that I faced, was the goal I set myself to try and face as many balls as I could at this stage of the tour.

"I don't want to look too much into it because it is the first game of the tour but it is really nice to spend some time out there with the other guys and put on a big score at the end of the day."

In his first nine Tests for England, Compton opened the batting, but he is expected to bat at number three in South Africa.
