Matt Prior given pain-killing injections

Matt Prior is suffering from an Achilles injury to give England an injury scare ahead of the first Test against South Africa on Thursday.

Matt Prior has been given pain-killing injections by England's medical staff, fuelling speculation that he could be doubtful for the first Test against South Africa.

The wicketkeeper has been given the injections due to a chronic problem with both Achilles tendons, according to the Daily Mail.

England already have concerns over Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann, with both bowlers sustaining elbow injuries in recent weeks.

Despite all three being expected to play in the first Test at The Oval on Thursday, it remains to be seen whether they are fully fit for the duration of the series.

South Africa have no fresh injury concerns for the match after the retirement of Mark Boucher last week.
