Matt Prior proud of "phenomenal effort"

England batsman Matt Prior believes that his side deserve credit for a "phenomenal effort" after holding New Zealand to a draw in the third Test in Auckland.

England batsman Matt Prior has declared that heart and desire helped him guide the tourists to a dramatic draw against New Zealand in Auckland.

Prior batted out the final day and made 111 runs under pressure to help England hang on to a draw in the third Test by just a single wicket.

The 31-year-old believes that England showed determination to help themselves out of a difficult situation and bat for more than 140 overs.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's still sinking in to be honest. I'm not one to celebrate draws but to escape with that is a phenomenal effort. To get over the line there is just unbelievable.

"Ultimately in that situation you have to back yourself to bowl as many balls as possible and just dig in. Broad and I have built some partnerships in the past, for him to come in and produce in that setting is a fantastic effort.

"Monty was good at the end, all out bowlers have been working hard in the net for moments like that. Those four balls he faced at the end were massive."

Prior hit 20 fours in his innings, which helped England reach 315-9 and survive a late New Zealand onslaught.
