Kevin Pietersen brings up double century

Kevin Pietersen scores a double century for Surrey to heap further pressure on new director of England cricket Andrew Strauss.

The clamour for Kevin Pietersen to be recalled to the England Test squad is expected to grow following his performance for Surrey during their ongoing County Championship game against Leicestershire at The Oval.

Earlier today the 34-year-old scored his first first-class ton since the 2013 Ashes series.

He has now backed that up by posting a double century from 276 balls to help Surrey reach 384-8 - a lead of 92 runs.

Pietersen's route to the 200-mark included 26 fours and two sixes at a strike-rate of 72.30.

News of the right-hander's exploits is likely to dominate tomorrow's press conference held by Andrew Strauss, who was recently appointed the new director of England cricket.

Pietersen has not represented England since he was sacked by the ECB for his alleged poor conduct during the 2013-14 Ashes campaign in Australia.
