Graham Onions breaks his finger while playing for Durham and is now unlikely to be fit in time for the final Ashes Test.

Graham Onions is unlikely to be selected for the final Ashes Test after breaking his finger while in action for Durham yesterday.

The seamer is said to have been very close to being selected for the current Test at Chester-le-Street but now may not have a chance to feature at The Oval from August 21-25.

"Onions has a break in his little finger on his right hand in his knuckle joint which was sustained in an attempt to catch the ball off his own bowling," said Durham in a statement.

"At this stage Onions is hoping to be fit to play in Durham's next LV= County Championship match against Surrey commencing on Thursday August 22nd."

Onions tweeted: "How's my luck?! Unfortunately yesterday I broke my little pinky dropping a catch off my own bowling so I won't be travelling today."

The injury was sustained against Scotland in a Yorkshire Bank 40 clash.
