Peter Moores backs Eoin Morgan to find best form in Sri Lanka

Moores backs Morgan to find form

England coach Peter Moores has claimed that Eoin Morgan will relish the opportunity to captain England in the fourth one-day international against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Morgan is set to deputise for Alastair Cook, who was given a one-match ban for his side's slow over-rate as the tourists reduced Sri Lanka's lead to 2-1 with victory on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old has struggled to find form with the bat in ODI cricket this year, but Moores is confident that the Middlesex batsman can lead by example in Colombo.

"He's a good player and will have been through periods when he's not quite hitting it as he'd like," Moores told reporters. "But he is the sort of player we are very excited about.

"The key is to go out and believe in yourself. Eoin will do that I'm sure."

Morgan has scored 3,654 runs in ODIs, but he hasn't recorded a half-century in the format in any of his last 15 innings.
