Stuart Meaker: 'I don't expect to be picked'

Stuart Meaker admits that it is unlikely he will earn his first Test cap during the tour of India.

Stuart Meaker has revealed that he doesn't expect to be included in the England team for the first Test against India.

The Surrey bowler was called up by England as cover for Steven Finn and Stuart Broad, who were both struggling with respective fitness problems. However, the duo's progress makes it unlikely that the 23-year-old will receive his first Test cap on this tour.

Meaker said: "Looking at how Steven is going, he's getting closer and closer to being ready.

"If I looked at the short term and thought only about this tour, I could get quite disheartened - knowing I could come here, play a game, take a few wickets and then perhaps get sent back to the EPP.

"But I look at it more long term, a great chance for me to show the new Test captain I can perform in these conditions - and that will bode well for a future Test call."

The first Test begins in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
