James Anderson regains number one Test bowling ranking

James Anderson moves above Ravichandran Ashwin in the latest Test bowling rankings list, while Steve Smith is named as the world's top batsman.

England's James Anderson has overtaken India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to top the Test bowling rankings.

The 34-year-old topped the standings in May for the first time in his career, but had since slipped down the list.

Anderson is back on top, however, after taking 4-85 in Sunday's victory over Pakistan at Edgbaston to put England 2-1 ahead in the four-match series.

Mitchell Starc, Dilruwan Perera and Chris Woakes are the other big climbers in the latest rankings, with the latter - a teammate of Anderson's - breaking into the top 20.

Australia's Steve Smith is the world's top batsman, meanwhile, having been named ahead of Joe Root and Kane Williamson.
