James Anderson: 'England omission was a shock'

James Anderson has revealed that he is prepared 'to dig deep' to earn a recall to the England squad this summer.

The nation's all-time leading wicket-taker was surprisingly dropped for the upcoming tour of the West Indies alongside long-time teammate Stuart Broad.

Interim director Andrew Strauss insists that the veteran duo could come back into contention later in 2022, but Anderson has admitted that his omission came as a surprise.

Speaking to The Tailenders Podcast, the 39-year-old said: "I've got one more go at digging deep. I've got a lot left to offer - I've still got the hunger and passion to play.

"It was a shock and a disappointment to get that call but having processed it, it's important I try to focus on stuff I can control and that's showing people what I can do with the ball in my hand."

Anderson played three matches during the recent Ashes series, taking eight wickets at an average of 23.37.
