England captain Alastair Cook has won the toss ahead of the first one-day international with India in Rajkot and he has elected to bat first.

After winning the toss, Cook revealed that Joe Root would make his one-day debut for England and will come in at number four in the batting order.

India are coming off the back of a 2-1 series defeat to Pakistan and they have opted to make one change to their starting lineup by bringing in Ashok Dinda for Shami Ahmed.

Today's match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium is the first of five 50-over matches and England will be hoping that they can repeat the success that they achieved in the Test series against India late last year.
