Alastair Cook says that England must not lose focus ahead of the second Test match against New Zealand.

England captain Alastair Cook has said that his team are focused solely on the second Test match against New Zealand and not this summer's Ashes series.

The Three Lions can will secure a series victory over the Kiwis by avoiding defeat at Headingley, but the build-up to the five-Test series with Australia is already heating up.

However, Cook said that England will not allow themselves to be distracted by what lies ahead this summer.

"It's very important as a team that you stay in the present," BBC Sport quotes Cook as saying.

"We know what's coming up in the summer, but we have to focus on this game and these five days. That's the way you have to operate, so that's how we will operate.

"Winning is vitally important - we want to win every game and series we're involved in. It sounds simple but it will take a lot of hard work."

England have won the last two Ashes series.
