Alastair Cook expects Moeen Ali to return to one-day internationals

Alastair Cook reveals that Moeen Ali is likely to be given the chance to impress against India at some stage of the one-day international series.

England captain Alastair Cook has revealed that Moeen Ali is likely to play some part in the one-day international series against India.

Ali missed out in Cardiff earlier this week as England opted for James Tredwell in the defeat in the second ODI, but Cook believes that it is only a matter of time until the spinning all-rounder is selected to face the tourists.

"You saw what James Tredwell brings to the side. He's done really well in his 30-odd games, and is a really canny operator," the England skipper told reporters. "But at some stage, I think we'll see Moeen play because of his huge development this year, in Test cricket.

"If he can make those strides in one-day cricket as well, he gives us another option if we want to play a slightly different side, but Tredders is really hard to hit."

The two teams will meet in the third ODI at Trent Bridge on Saturday, with India currently holding a 1-0 lead.
