Middlesex Panthers batsman Nick Compton has insisted that he has not given up hope of earning an England recall.
The 31-year-old has been out of the international reckoning for the past two years, winning his last cap against New Zealand in 2013.
England have since tried different options at the top of the order, although Compton believes that he still has plenty to offer if selected in the future.
"The fire still burns bright," he told BBC Sport. "I feel I am the right man for the job and want to prove to the selectors and everyone else out there that I can do a great job this summer.
"I'm desperately keen to get back in that team. It will be a tough summer [against New Zealand and Australia] and you need guys with a lot of fight and ability to get through tough situations."
Compton has scored 355 runs in five County Championship matches since returning to Middlesex at the end of last year.
