Chris Woakes determined to make impact

Chris Woakes is hopeful that he can finish the season strongly as he prepares to return to the England squad.

Chris Woakes has revealed his determination to finish a frustrating summer strongly ahead of his return to the England squad.

A foot injury and an operation on his knee kept him out for long spells of the season, but he was rewarded with a spot in the England squad for the Twenty20 match and five one-day internationals against Australia.

Before joining up with England, Woakes will look to help the Birmingham Bears defend their T20 Blast title on Saturday and he is hopeful of finding his best form over the next couple of weeks.

"The first few months of the season were frustrating and annoying," he told reporters. "After a tough World Cup which didn't really go the way we would have liked it would have been nice to have started the summer with a clean slate. That wasn't to be.

"I'm really pleased to be called back in. I wasn't really sure whether I was going to be part of it or not so I'm really pleased to be selected.

"It seems like forever since the World Cup so I'm really itching to get back out there."

England meet Australia in a T20 international at the SWALEC Stadium on Monday.
