Jason Roy made his England return for the crunch World Cup game against India at Edgbaston, with all-rounder Moeen Ali dropped.
Roy has missed the last three games with a torn hamstring but was passed fit to reclaim his opening spot from the off-form James Vince.
Jofra Archer retained his place despite ongoing trouble with his left side, with Liam Plunkett recalled in place of Moeen.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bat first against an India side which included Rishabh Pant in place of Vijay Shankar.
The hosts must win if they are to keep qualification for the semi-finals in their own hands.
