Cook: England have "outstanding chance" of winning World Cup

Alastair Cook believes England are worthy favourites to win the World Cup that is launched next month.

Eoin Morgan's men enter the tournament as the game's most dangerous one-day team and their title quest begins against South Africa at The Oval on May 30.

Former England captain Cook, who has retired from international cricket, believes they have the talent to clinch the country's first World Cup.

"England have an outstanding chance. This is the first time they are going to the World Cup with such a settled squad," the Essex batsman told Sky Sports News.

"Everything looks great from the outside. If you're looking into that, they've got every option covered.

"They also had that little blip in the Champions Trophy in 2017 and they were favourites for that tournament as well, but come the semi-final obviously [lost to] Pakistan.

"You need that as a side, the lows to build from. They'll have learned a huge amount from that.

"I think they are favourites. This is genuinely a great opportunity for Eoin and the guys because they have match winners throughout the squad."
