England fight back against Australia during second session in Cardiff

Gary Ballance and Joe Root have led the England fightback at tea on day one of the first Ashes Test in Cardiff.

The hosts struggled during the morning session, losing three wickets for 88 runs.

However, Ballance and Root both attacked the Australian bowlers after the restart to push England on to 190-3.

Ballance moved from 28 to 59 not out, while Root will start the final session seven runs short of his century after hitting 33 earlier in the day.
