Report: Mark Wood faces race against time to play in fourth Test

England may be without bowler Mark Wood for the fourth Ashes Test of the summer with an ankle injury, according to reports.

England bowler Mark Wood is a major doubt for the fourth Ashes Test against Australia this week, according to reports.

The Durham right-armer played in the opening two matches of the series and took five wickets, before an ankle injury saw him miss last week's game at Edgbaston.

The hosts will be without senior bowler James Anderson for the fourth Test after he picked up a side strain, and Wood was expected to come back into the side.

However, The Telegraph claims that Wood only bowled for the first time since the second Test yesterday, and has a way to go if he is going to convince selectors that he is fit enough to play.

The paper suggests that Mark Footitt will get the nod if Wood is deemed unfit.
