Smith: 'Australia wary of Tremlett threat'

Steve Smith has told his Australia teammates that they must be wary of the threat posed by Chris Tremlett during the Ashes.

The two sides meet later this week for the opening Test of the series at the Gabba, and Tremlett has been tipped to get the nod for England as the final selected bowler alongside James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

The Surrey paceman took 17 wickets during the 2010-11 Ashes series Down Under, and Smith feels that Tremlett deserves attention from the Australia camp.

"He obviously did a very good job for them the last time they were out here," Smith told reporters.

"He is definitely one we have to be wary of with his extra height and extra bounce.

"Their bowling attack is strong, all of them are experienced and we will have to bat well against them."

The Ashes gets underway in Brisbane on Thursday.
