Peter Siddle believes that England played perfectly on day three to take advantage of the favourable batting conditions.

Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle has admitted that England made the most of the conditions and match situation on day three of the second Ashes Test at Lord's.

Siddle took three late wickets on day two to leave England on 31-3, but the hosts batted the game out of Australia's reach on day three, thanks largely to Joe Root's unbeaten 178 runs.

"I think they summed up the conditions well, took their time early on and just made us keep bowling and bowling," Sky Sports News quotes Siddle as saying.

"Obviously that last session they cashed in a little bit on the tired bodies that were out there. We could have been a little more consistent and patient.

"We were for most of the time but when we did lose that they capitalised and made the most of us lacking in concentration."

England hold a lead of 566 runs heading into the fourth day.
