Brett Lee: 'First day of second Ashes Test at Lord's is crucial for both teams'

Former Australia paceman Brett Lee believes that the first day of the second Test at Lord's will play a vital role in who will win The Ashes.

Former Australia paceman Brett Lee has suggested that day one of the second Ashes Test at Lord's will play a pivotal role in the entire series.

England have a 1-0 lead following their 169-run triumph over Australia in the opening Test in Cardiff.

The hosts do not have the best record at Lord's, having won just seven of 35 Tests against Australia at the ground, and Lee is confident that his nation will level up the series this week.

"The most important day of this whole five-Test Ashes series is the first day at Lord's," Lee told CNN. "If England start well and get runs on the board, or if they have Australia three down for 60 at lunch, it's a different game.

"If Australia can post a first-innings total, they can win this game. And if they do, Australia will win The Ashes. I really believe Australia will bounce back and it'll be 1-1 after this week. If not, Australia have a huge job ahead of them."

Play will get underway at 11am today.
