England's Ian Bell disappointed with performance

Ian Bell admits that England were "disappointing" against Australia on day one of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia in Melbourne.

England batsman Ian Bell has admitted that he and his teammates are disappointed with their performance on the first day of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The tourists finished the day on 226-6 in Melbourne, with Kevin Pietersen and Tim Bresnan at the crease on 67 and one respectively.

"A lot of guys got starts, so it's disappointing no-one got a big score," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "On that surface, we're probably too few runs for a few too many wickets. Hopefully, with Kev still there, maybe we'll get over 300.

"We have to find the right balance of putting pressure on the bowler. You can't just stand there and try to survive, but sometimes you can only hit what you get given.

"There are no arguments with the pitch. It felt a little bit English this morning, but as the sun came out it was fantastic to bat on."

England have already lost The Ashes following their three defeats in the first three Tests in the five-match series.
