Alastair Cook expects Moeen Ali to play for England in second Ashes Test

England skipper Alastair Cook says that Moeen Ali will play in the second Ashes Test unless he takes a turn for the worse before tomorrow's first day.

England captain Alastair Cook has revealed that he expects Moeen Ali to play in the second Ashes Test against Australia.

Reports this morning suggested that Ali was a doubt for the match at Lord's because of a side injury, but Cook believes that he will be present tomorrow unless he takes a turn for the worse.

"He felt his side a tiny bit after the last game and, with his previous history, the medical team were wrapping him in cotton wool," Cook told reporters this afternoon.

"We'll make a final call tomorrow but it was more precautionary yesterday.

"I don't think it's the same injury. It's like always when you've got two games back to back, you're a little bit careful with training. But unless he gets a reaction overnight I expect him to be in our side."

Ali scored 92 with the bat and took five Australian wickets in the 169-run first Test victory in Cardiff.
