Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja hit centuries as Australia dominate West Indies at MCG

Australia dominate the West Indies on day one of the second Test in Melbourne thanks to centuries from Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja.

Australia batsmen Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja both scored centuries as the hosts dominated day one of the second Test against the West Indies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day.

In-form opener David Warner got the hosts off to an electric start after rain slightly delayed the beginning of play, scoring 23 off just 12 balls before he lost his wicket in the fifth over to Jerome Taylor.

That brought Khawaja, who was making his return from injury, to the crease and he and Burns put on a 258-run second-wicket stand to delight the home crowd.

Despite losing the toss and being put into bat, Burns and Khawaja looked comfortable as the Windies' bowlers struggled to cause many problems

The duo brought up their 100s within a couple of balls of each other before Burns fell first for 128 off the bowling of Kraigg Braithwaite.

Taylor then removed Khawaja for 144, but Australia ensured that there would be no end-of-day collapse as Steve Smith (32*) and Adam Voges (10*) saw the hosts through to the close of play.

Australia, who cruised to victory in the first Test, will start day two on 345-3.
