Australia win first one-dayer against India in Perth

Centuries from Steve Smith and George Bailey help Australia to win the first of five one-day internationals against India in Perth.

Australia won by a five-wicket margin over India at the WACA this morning in the first of five one-day international clashes between the two nations.

Batting first, it seemed that the touring Indians had set their hosts a more than competitive victory target when they finished their allotted 50 overs on 309-3.

The main contribution came from Rohit Sharma, who in scoring 171 produced the biggest ever ODI knock against the Aussies in Australia.

However, while the home team lost the services of openers Aaron Finch and David Warner for just a combined 13 runs, their replacements - Steve Smith and George Bailey - put together a 242-run partnership to leave Australia on the cusp of victory.

Smith departed for 149 and Bailey with 112 runs to his name, which left Mitchell Marsh (12) and James Faulkner (1) to wrap up the win with four balls to spare.

The next match between the pair will take place on Friday in Brisbane.
