Jackson Bird hoping for Ashes involvement

Australian bowler Jackson Bird is still hoping to feature in The Ashes this summer, despite not being included in the 17-man squad.

Jackson Bird has not given up hope that he will represent Australia in The Ashes this summer.

The seamer was not included in the 17-man squad for the tours of the West Indies and England, but he has been placed on the standby list.

If he can impress during his upcoming three-month stint with Hampshire, the 28-year-old believes that there is still a chance he could turn out for the baggy green.

"I've missed out on the Ashes touring party but I am on standby for those two tours," he told BBC Sport.

"The bonus is if I'm doing well and I'm over here then if someone gets injured then hopefully I get the call up."

Bird made the last of his three Test appearances against England at Chester-le-Street in August 2013.
