Australia "hopeful" over Chris Rogers

Australia have announced that they are "hopeful" over the fitness of Chris Rogers ahead of the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Rogers was forced to retire ill on 49 during the second innings of Australia's crushing 405-run victory at Lord's having become dizzy and disorientated at the crease.

The 37-year-old will undergo further tests later this week, but team doctor Peter Brukner hinted that there was a chance the in-form batsman will be available.

"Chris saw another specialist in London this morning who confirmed an injury to his vestibular (balance) system in his inner ear. Chris's condition continues to improve but he will remain in London for further tests and specialised treatment," Brukner said in a statement.

"We are hopeful that he will be available for selection for the third Test."

The third Test will start next Wednesday.
