Joe Joyce focused on gold after last-eight win

Great Britain's Joe Joyce says that he is fully focused on winning gold at the Olympic Games after moving through to the semi-finals of the super-heavyweight division.

Great Britain's Joe Joyce has admitted that he was looking to secure a knockout win during his quarter-final triumph in the super-heavyweight division.

The boxing competition at the Olympic Games has been marred by a number of controversial decisions but although Joyce dominated his fight with Bakhodir Jalolov, he has suggested that he was wary of being on the wrong end of the scorecards.

Joyce has now guaranteed himself at least a bronze medal, but he has acknowledged that he is only focused on trying to achieve gold in Brazil.

The 30-year-old is quoted by The Mirror: "I was looking for the knockout but when that didn't happen I wanted to win the fight clearly and make sure the judges were going to go my way and that's what I managed to do.

"It means a lot to me to win an Olympic medal and whatever happens it is obviously better than nothing. But now I'm here the only thing I am focusing on is going all the way to gold."

Joyce is back in action on Friday when he faces Kazakhstan's Ivan Dychko.
