Luke McCormack: 'I didn't get out of first gear'

Great Britain boxer Luke McCormack has revealed that he overcame illness to defeat Greece's Panagiotis Matsagkos this morning.

The 20-year-old won on a unanimous decision to set up a fight against Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha.

"I thought it was good, but I just felt I couldn't get out of first gear - I've been sitting about for 10 days, hopefully it'll build up from there. I was ill for a couple days recently so I just ate bananas," McCormack told reporters.

"Another lad from GB, Joe Cordina, beat him [Oumiha] last week so hopefully I'll get the win whenever it is."

McCormack won the England Elite Boxing Championship earlier this year.
