Leo Santa Cruz overcomes Jose Cayetano on points

Leo Santa Cruz has marked his debut at featherweight with a points win against Jose Cayetano at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The undefeated Mexican, who currently possesses the WBC super-bantamweight title, was expected to make a statement against Cayetano, but the underdog made him work for the win.

Each round followed a similar pattern as Santa Cruz went on the offensive looking for the stoppage, but Cayetano was durable and never looked in trouble during the 10-round contest.

All three judges scored the fight 100-90 in favour of Santa Cruz, but his lack of punch power at his new weight class may be cause for concern going forward.
