Irish Olympic boxer Katie Taylor decides against turning pro

Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor has revealed that she plans to remain as an amateur boxer and defend her title in Rio 2016.

The 26-year-old, who clinched the top honour at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the summer, was tipped to turn pro following a number of lucrative offers.

"Just boxing for my country and bringing back medals, there's really nothing better," Taylor told the Today FM. "I'm going to stay amateur and defend my title in Rio in four years' time."

The female boxer made her decision following a number of discussions with promoters.
