No surgery planned for Nick Blackwell after bleed on the brain

Nick Blackwell is not expected to undergo surgery after suffering a bleed on the brain in his British middleweight title defeat to Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital where it has since been revealed that he has been placed in an induced coma.

According to BBC Sport, however, scans have shown no increase in the pressure on his brain and Blackwell will therefore not have to undergo surgery.

British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith provided a further update on the Trowbridge boxer's condition, saying in a statement: "He's in intensive care, he's in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts.

"It's a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There's no timescale. Now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing."

Saturday night's fight at Wembley Arena was stopped in round 10 on medical advice.
