Martin Murray to challenge Arthur Abraham for WBO super-middleweight title

British super-middleweight Martin Murray will challenge WBO champion Arthur Abraham in Hannover on November 21.

British super-middleweight Martin Murray has been given the opportunity to face WBO champion Arthur Abraham next month.

After losing to Gennady Golovkin in February, Murray made the decision to move up to the 168lbs division, and after a number of warm-up bouts, the St Helens fighter will face the experienced Abraham in Hannover on November 21.

The clash will be Murray's fourth attempt to win a world title, but only one of his previous three efforts has ended in a conclusive defeat, which came against Golovkin at the start of the year.

In 2011, Murray was unfortunate to draw with Felix Sturm in Mannheim, before 16 months later, he was deemed to have suffered a points loss to Sergio Martinez in Argentina.

On the same night that Murray lost to Golovkin, Abraham successfully defended his WBO strap against fellow British fighter Paul Smith, which was followed by a sixth-round stoppage of Robert Stieglitz in July.
