Matthew Macklin has signed a deal to fight unbeaten WBO and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in Connecticut on June 29.

It will be the 30-year-old's third title tilt, having previously lost to Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinez.

However, Golovkin, who has stopped 23 of his 26 opponents inside the distance, will arguably be his toughest fight to date.

"He's destroyed pretty much everyone and, as a consequence, he's probably the most hyped fighter in the sport," Sky Sports News quotes Mackin as saying.

"People have made him out to be a monster but he bleeds red just like everybody else. When you compare my last three opponents to his it's clear who the proven entity is."

Macklin, who has a 29-4 record, has not fought since stopping Joachim Alcine in the first round of their fight in September.
