Amir Khan: 'I deserve Floyd Mayweather bout'

Khan: 'I deserve Mayweather bout'

Amir Khan believes that he has "earned" his shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr having produced a dominant display to see off Devon Alexander in the early hours of this morning.

The 28-year-old Briton successfully defended his WBC silver title in the Las Vegas bout to set up a potential meeting with Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao next May.

"We worked hard for this fight," The Guardian quotes Khan as saying. "I needed to make a statement and I did that. Devon was a very skillfull fighter. It was a tough fight but I have proved myself at welterweight.

"I hadn't called Floyd Mayweather out with confidence before but now it is different. Virgil Hunter is teaching me when to attack. I am getting better, wiser, I was moving my feet more and boxing wiser. I have the best jab in the business.

"I believe Mayweather vs. Khan would be huge. I want to fight the best and I think I have earned it."

Khan has previously made no secret of his desire to fight Mayweather Jr, calling on boxing fans around the world to "demand" a bout.
