Bernard Hopkins: 'I could return to super-middleweight'

Two-weight world champion Bernard Hopkins has hinted that he will compete at super-middleweight during the final stages of the career.

Hopkins, who turned 50 on Thursday, suffered a one-sided defeat to Sergey Kovalev at light-heavyweight in November, but two months on from that setback, the veteran has revealed that a move to 168lbs could suit both himself and television broadcasters.

The American told Sky Sports News: "A move to super-middleweight has been talked about among the giants in TV world.

"I am comfortable at 168. In fact, if you look at my last four fights, I came in well under 175. I feel like I'm a little past my peak but not past my peak to the point where I'm headed down fast."

Earlier this week, BoxingScene.com reported that Hopkins is a contender to face IBF and WBA super-middleweight title holder Carl Froch if the British fighter can't agree a deal with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
